Residents of Xinjiang felt the ground shake Tuesday morning as a 4.2 magnitude earthquake registered across the region. The seismological report indicated the tremor occurred at 8:45 AM, with a remarkably shallow depth of only 10 kilometers. Geologists explain that earthquakes originating closer to the Earth’s surface, like this one, can generate more forceful shaking when the seismic waves reach the surface. This increased intensity heightens concerns for structural integrity and public safety. The earthquake’s epicenter was precisely pinpointed at 41.65 N, 81.14 E. Authorities are continuing to monitor seismic activity and the aftermath of this event.
