BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping has delivered pivotal instructions to the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), highlighting its instrumental role over the past four decades in advancing basic research and nurturing innovative talents.
In a recent directive, Xi commended the NSFC for its positive contributions since its inception in 1986. The foundation has evolved into a cornerstone for funding fundamental scientific inquiries by researchers across the nation.
Looking ahead to this new era, Xi urged the NSFC to deeply study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. He emphasized seizing historical opportunities presented by the new round of technological and industrial revolutions.
Xi called for strengthening the strategic, forward-looking, and systematic nature of basic research. This includes deepening reforms in the science funding system and further refining funding mechanisms to foster a conducive research environment.
The President stressed expanding international cooperation and empowering researchers to reach new heights in scientific achievements. These efforts, he said, will drive high-level scientific and technological self-reliance, contributing significantly to building a strong nation in science and technology.
As China pushes boundaries in innovation, the NSFC stands at the forefront, poised to support groundbreaking discoveries that shape the global scientific landscape.
