Beijing, February 10 – Just a week before the Chinese Lunar New Year, President Xi Jinping embarked on a heartfelt tour of the capital, visiting key sites from scientific innovation hubs to elderly care facilities and bustling New Year markets. His visits underscored a message of unity and progress as he extended warm greetings to the nation.
Starting Monday morning, Xi arrived at the National Information Technology Innovation Park in Yizhuang, where he delved into cutting-edge applications of information technology. He examined displays on artificial intelligence and robotics, engaging in discussions with researchers and tech company representatives. ‘Independent and self-reliant science and technology are the key to building a modern socialist powerhouse,’ Xi emphasized, urging Beijing to leverage its strengths for greater contributions.
The following day, Xi’s itinerary took him to the ‘Wulao-Xinchye’ elderly care zone in Shijingshan District. There, he inspected the dining hall for seniors, inquired about their services, and even chatted with resting delivery couriers, praising their hard work. Respecting the elderly is a cherished Chinese tradition, he noted, and caring for them is a shared societal duty.
In the vibrant pedestrian area of Longfu Block, transformed into a lively New Year market, Xi mingled with locals, purchased traditional items, and shared festival greetings. He stressed the importance of ensuring a peaceful and prosperous New Year for all by prioritizing public welfare and safety.
Extending his Spring Festival wishes, Xi conveyed greetings to all Chinese people, compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao, Taiwan kin, and overseas Chinese.
