The Indian government has denied any involvement in the restriction of the Reuters account on the social media platform X. According to a representative from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the government did not issue any order to withhold the Reuters handle. The government is actively working with X to resolve the issue. The Reuters X account is currently unavailable for users in India, with a message stating that the account has been withheld in response to a legal demand. Similar restrictions have been applied to the X handles of TRT and Global Times. X’s help center explains that these account withholdings are a result of legal demands, like court orders or local laws.
