Waqf Amendment Bill: Once again there was a huge uproar during the meeting of the JPC i.e. Joint Committee of Parliament formed on Waqf. Due to which JPC Committee Chairperson Jagdambika Pal suspended 10 opposition MPs including Kalyan Banerjee, Owaisi for a day. Not only this, Jagdambika Pal has made serious allegations. He said that the opposition MPs used unparliamentary words against him and also abused him.
Waqf’s JPC meeting was held on Friday. During this time there was a lot of commotion. In the meeting, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee asked why the meeting was being called in such a hurry. Nishikant Dubey lodged an objection on this. After this there was a heated argument between the two leaders. The situation became such that Marcel had to be called. After this the meeting was adjourned for some time. JPC Committee President Jagdambika Pal has suspended 10 opposition MPs including Kalyan Banerjee, Owaisi for a day.

On this, JPC President Jagdambika Pal said that we adjourned the House twice. Kalyan Banerjee used unparliamentary words against me, abused me. I kept requesting him to allow those whom we had invited to speak. We adjourned the House repeatedly, but they did not want the meeting to continue. A delegation had come from Jammu and Kashmir, but they kept shouting and raising slogans so finally Nishikant Dubey had to move the proposal and everyone agreed to it.
Jagdambika called the allegations baseless
Whereas committee chairperson Jagdambika Pal has termed the allegations of opposition MPs as baseless. He said that only after the request of all the members of the committee, Mirwaiz Umar Farooqui was called to present his side before the committee. Jagdambika Pal said that on one hand the opposition MPs say that Muslim organizations do not get a chance to speak and when we are giving them the opportunity, they are creating ruckus over it.

In fact, the main reason behind the uproar by the members of the opposition parties in the JPC on Waqf was the demand of the committee members that the date of adopting the report should be changed to January 31. Before preparing the report of the committee, the date of 24th and 25th January was earlier fixed for discussion on clause by clause amendments, but late Thursday night the date was changed to 27th January. The MPs of the opposition parties demanded that the meeting for clause by clause should be postponed to January 31 instead of January 27. The chairman of the committee was not ready to accept the demand of the MPs from the opposition parties. According to the earlier schedule, clause by clause amendment adoption was scheduled to take place on January 24, but today Muslim scholars of Kashmir under the leadership of Mirwaiz Farooq were given an opportunity to present their views before the committee.
What did the TMC MP say?
TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, who walked out of the proceedings, said the committee proceedings had become a farce. He demanded that the meeting scheduled on January 27 should be postponed to January 30 or January 31. However, BJP member Nishikant Dubey criticized the opposition members and said that their conduct was against parliamentary tradition and they were trying to suppress the voice of the majority.

On behalf of the opposition, DMK Chief Whip in Lok Sabha A Raja has demanded postponement of the meeting of January 24 and 25. In a letter written to Jagdambika Pal, Raja said- “Needless to say that the JPC tours in Patna, Kolkata and Lucknow were completed on January 21 itself. The strange thing is that the next JPC meeting was conducted hastily without announcing the dates, even though the JPC was already on tour.
The report will be presented in Parliament on this day
Let us tell you that out of 21 Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha members of the committee, 13 are from opposition parties. There are nine members in the lower house and four in the upper house. It is believed that the committee can present its 500-page report in the upcoming budget session. This committee on Waqf has held 34 meetings in Delhi and visited several states, where more than 24 stakeholders were called. After the meeting held in Lucknow, UP, President Jagdambika Pal had said that the last meeting of JPC will be held on January 24. After this, the report will be presented in Parliament during the budget session to be held on January 31. Jagdambika Pal said that in the last six months we have held 34 meetings in Delhi alone.
