Washington is rallying behind President Donald Trump’s bold military action against Iran. Senior Republican lawmakers have voiced strong support for ‘Operation Epic Fury,’ framing it as a critical response to decades of Tehran’s aggression.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune laid out the dangers posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions, ballistic missile buildup, and sponsorship of terrorist groups. “For years, Iran’s persistent nuclear pursuits, expanded ballistic missile inventory, and ongoing support for terrorist organizations in the region have posed a clear and present danger to American service members, regional civilians, and many of our allies,” Thune declared.

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso hailed the operation as a restoration of deterrence. “I commend President Trump for this decisive step to end the reign of terror in Iran. This is peace through strength,” Barrasso stated, echoing the White House’s release of endorsements from lawmakers.

Senator Tom Cotton detailed Iran’s long history of enmity toward the US, listing the 1979 hostage crisis, Beirut Marine barracks bombing, Khobar Towers attack, roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan that killed or wounded thousands of US troops, and even assassination attempts on Trump. “A nuclear weapons program. Thousands of missiles. State-sponsored terror. Iran has been at war with America for 47 years,” Cotton said.

Other voices chimed in. Senator Roger Wicker emphasized the clear objectives: crippling the Ayatollah’s nuclear weapon aspirations permanently, degrading ballistic missile forces and production, and dismantling naval and terror capabilities. House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed that congressional leaders, including the Gang of Eight, were briefed in detail prior to the strikes to protect US troops and citizens.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise noted Trump’s exhaustive diplomatic efforts, contrasted with Iran’s unrelenting hostile actions. On Sunday talk shows, Senator Lindsey Graham praised the operation bluntly: “The mothership of terrorism is sinking. The captain is dead. Great job, President Trump.”

Lawmakers repeatedly cited Iran’s nuclear program, missile development, and militant backing as justifications long overdue. They described the strikes as strategically necessary, with the president acting as commander-in-chief under the Constitution, though tradition calls for congressional oversight on major operations. More briefings are expected as the mission progresses.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran has been a focal point of US national security policy, marked by sanctions, proxy conflicts, and disputes over uranium enrichment. Preventing a nuclear-armed Iran has been a bipartisan goal for decades, though approaches to diplomacy, sanctions, and force have varied.
