After a period of aggressive trade policies, the US approach towards India seems to be softening. K.P. Fabian, a former Indian diplomat, believes that this change is a result of the ineffectiveness of tariffs imposed by the United States. Trump’s trade strategy, particularly the extra 25% tariffs, which brought the total to 50%, hasn’t achieved the desired results. Trump is now recognizing the limitations of his approach, with specific regard to India’s stance on purchasing Russian oil.

Fabian highlighted that Trump is now acknowledging that his initial belief that India would succumb to the tariffs was flawed.
