A major challenge has emerged for US efforts to neutralize Hezbollah in Lebanon, as the Lebanese army has declined to participate in any action against the group. American envoys, during their visit to Beirut, attempted to persuade Lebanese authorities to take steps towards disarming Hezbollah. However, the Lebanese military has signaled its unwillingness to undermine national peace. The US representatives held discussions with several top Lebanese officials, with the key question to the army chief being whether the military would intervene to disarm Hezbollah. The answer was a clear ‘no,’ emphasizing the army’s commitment to preserving the nation’s stability.
