In a stunning announcement, the United States has declared victory over the architect behind multiple assassination attempts on President Donald Trump. U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth revealed during a Washington press conference that special forces tracked down and neutralized the leader of an elite unit linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

‘Yesterday, we took out the head of that unit which attempted to assassinate President Trump,’ Hegseth stated firmly, emphasizing the operation’s success without disclosing the target’s identity. This development marks a significant escalation in the shadowy conflict between Washington and Tehran, rooted in the 2020 drone strike that killed IRGC commander Qasem Soleimani.

Meanwhile, in a Brooklyn federal courtroom, Pakistani national Asif Merchant faces terrorism charges for allegedly plotting with Iran to hire shooters during Trump’s 2024 campaign. Merchant, arrested in July 2024 while trying to flee the country, purportedly used his clothing business as a front to target figures he viewed as enemies of Pakistan and the Muslim world.

Prosecutors detailed how Merchant connected with a supposed Pakistani contact—who was actually an FBI informant—to recruit hitmen. Unbeknownst to him, these were undercover agents. He even handed over $5,000 as an advance, confessing to IRGC training and communicating via hidden messages in gift packages routed through Pakistan.

The timing is uncanny. Merchant’s trial coincides with heightened U.S.-Iran tensions, prompting Judge Eric Komitee to remark on the ‘interesting timing.’ Just a day after his arrest, a separate attempt unfolded at a Pennsylvania rally, where a bullet grazed Trump’s ear.

This plot echoes another 2024 case involving Afghan national Farhad Shakeri, charged in absentia for offering a bounty on Trump. As the 2024 election loomed, the Biden administration had warned of threats against Trump. With the mastermind now eliminated, President Trump has his revenge, but questions linger about ongoing dangers from IRGC proxies.
