President Trump has implemented a new Executive Order altering tariff rates, citing the need to address U.S. trade deficits. The order, based on existing legislation, adjusts duties on goods from various countries. Brazil and Syria face the most significant increases, while India’s tariff rate remains the same. The order also introduces a conditional structure for the European Union, and imposes substantial penalties for transshipment practices. The Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of Homeland Security, and the USTR will oversee the implementation of the order, which is subject to applicable law and the availability of appropriations.
