President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that his recent high-stakes meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping will pave the way for ‘everlasting peace and success’ between their nations. In a social media post, Trump described the ‘G2 meeting’ as a highly productive session that bodes well for both the United States and China. He optimistically stated that this dialogue would culminate in enduring peace. The summit took place in Busan, South Korea, as US-China trade tensions remained a significant global concern. Following the talks, Trump revealed a reduction in US tariffs on Chinese products, decreasing them from 57% to 47%. He also confirmed that all issues pertaining to rare earth minerals had been resolved. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also conveyed a positive outlook, suggesting that joint efforts between the two countries could yield substantial benefits for both nations and the international community. President Xi highlighted their role as major global players, capable of undertaking significant collaborative projects. Adding a layer of security cooperation, the US and China have agreed to establish direct military communication channels. This measure is designed to deconflict and de-escalate any potential military issues. The agreement was reached after a meeting between US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and China’s Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun in Malaysia. Hegseth underscored the positive trajectory of US-China relations, emphasizing that prioritizing peace, stability, and mutual respect is essential for the strength and prosperity of both countries and the world.
