Former US President Donald Trump has announced that Hamas has a three- to four-day deadline to respond to a peace deal. He confirmed that Arab and Muslim countries, along with Israel, have already agreed, and that Hamas’s approval is the only step remaining. Trump warned of grave consequences if Hamas fails to comply.
Trump emphasized his priority of securing the immediate return of all hostages while also seeking improved conduct from Hamas. He characterized the effort as a historic undertaking, extending beyond the borders of Gaza and influencing the wider Middle East.
Trump’s 20-point plan, designed to bring an end to the Gaza conflict, has been endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The international community is now focused on Hamas’s response. The proposal has received positive feedback from leaders in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt, who see it as a chance for regional peace if the conditions are met and a safe release is possible.
The deal’s primary stipulations are well-defined. Hamas must dismantle its armed wing, destroy its tunnels and weapons manufacturing facilities, and will not be granted any political position in any future government. Hamas members wishing to embrace peaceful lives and publicly apologize may be granted amnesty.
Israeli forces will progressively withdraw from Gaza, and borders will be opened to facilitate humanitarian assistance and investments. The agreement stipulates that Hamas must release 20 live hostages and the remains of two dozen deceased hostages within 72 hours. In addition, an exchange program is outlined for the release of hundreds of Gazans.
If Hamas declines the deal, Israel will have full rights and will be supported by the United States. The plan’s aims include the removal of explosive devices from Gaza, the establishment of a stable civil administration, and the fostering of long-term stability in the region.
