At a joint press conference held in Alaska, Vladimir Putin expressed his conviction that the Russia-Ukraine conflict would have been avoided if Donald Trump had been the US President in 2022. Putin’s remarks aligned with Trump’s stance, who has blamed the current administration for the ongoing war. Putin recounted a 2022 conversation with then-President Joe Biden, where he warned against allowing tensions to escalate. Putin stated that the recent meeting with Trump was held in a constructive environment. He emphasized the close proximity of the US and Russia, despite the separation by the International Date Line. He highlighted Alaska’s historical significance and its role during World War II. He further discussed Russia’s cultural influence in Alaska. Putin pointed out that despite strained relations, he and Trump have maintained open communication channels. He also mentioned the multiple visits to Russia by Trump’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, as well as ongoing dialogue between advisors. The summit was received enthusiastically in Russia, with significant media coverage.
