President Donald Trump has publicly stated that Pakistan has been conducting nuclear weapons tests. This significant disclosure was made not long after Trump declared that the U.S. would resume its own nuclear weapons testing, a move not seen in over three decades. Trump identified Pakistan as part of a group of countries, including Russia, China, and North Korea, that are actively engaged in nuclear testing. He presented this as a key reason for the United States to re-enter the testing phase. During a recent interview, Trump pointed out the discrepancy, stating that while these nations test, the U.S. has been the only one refraining. He highlighted the open nature of American society, where such discussions are public. “We’re going to test because they test and others test. And certainly North Korea’s been testing. Pakistan’s been testing,” the President affirmed. These remarks were prompted by questions regarding his administration’s decision to “detonate nuclear weapons.” The earlier announcement on Thursday detailed the immediate resumption of U.S. nuclear testing, a response to Russia’s recent trials of advanced nuclear-capable systems, intensifying the geopolitical nuclear landscape. Trump reiterated that the U.S. must test to observe and understand the performance of these weapons, emphasizing that he does not want the U.S. to be the sole nation not participating in testing, especially given the activities of others. Furthermore, Trump claimed the U.S. possesses the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, surpassing other nations like Russia and China. He mentioned having engaged in discussions about denuclearization with Presidents Putin and Xi. When asked about the potential for increased global tension due to renewed testing, Trump indicated that the U.S. is well-prepared and in a secure position.
