During a recent statement, Donald Trump indicated that Ukraine should be permitted to launch attacks against Russian forces, diverging from his earlier statements on peace. Trump argued that winning a war without offensive actions is nearly impossible. He accused Joe Biden of hindering Ukraine’s ability to effectively combat Russian aggression. Trump reiterated his opinion that the conflict would have been prevented had he remained in office. Simultaneously, a recent meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska concluded without a formal ceasefire agreement. Trump has also proposed a future trilateral summit with Putin and Zelenskyy. The US is currently considering how to provide security assurances to Ukraine, although no plans to deploy American troops have been announced. White House officials have indicated that the possibility of providing air support is not being ruled out.
