The United States and India are experiencing increased tension due to India’s purchase of discounted Russian oil, which has resulted in significant US tariffs on Indian exports. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to visit India before the end of the year. The timeframe for the visit was initially reported as August but later corrected to the end of the year. The announcement of the visit has not been officially confirmed by either Indian or Russian authorities. Doval’s visit to Moscow took place alongside a visit from US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Discussions included India-Russia security and defense cooperation, including the delivery of critical military platforms. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022, India has continued buying discounted Russian oil. Trump has singled out India and responded with high tariffs on Indian exports.
