President Donald Trump announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping has sanctioned the TikTok deal, permitting the platform’s continued existence within the United States. Addressing reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump reported a positive exchange with President Xi, who granted his approval to the TikTok arrangement. Trump indicated the deal is nearing completion, with only a formal signing required. He added that the TikTok deal is set to occur soon, with investors in the final stages of preparation. Emphasizing stringent oversight, Trump stated that the United States will have firm control. He expressed gratitude to President Xi Jinping, indicating that the deal is advantageous for all parties. This announcement followed a telephone conversation between Trump and Xi, during which topics including the TikTok agreement were discussed. ByteDance issued a statement subsequently, expressing appreciation to both presidents for their attention to TikTok. The original legislation, passed in April 2024, had set January 19, 2025, as the deadline for a ban, which the Trump administration has yet to enforce. The United States remains committed to reaching a deal with China, ensuring American investors have significant control over TikTok.
