Donald Trump announced a temporary cessation of fighting between Thailand and Cambodia, emphasizing that both countries have agreed to abide by an earlier treaty. He commended the leaders involved for their swift and fair resolution, asserting the United States’ significant contribution to the peace process. ‘I want to congratulate both great leaders on their brilliance in coming to this rapid and very fair conclusion. It was FAST & DECISIVE, as all of these situations should be!’ Trump posted on his platform. He extended this narrative to his broader diplomatic efforts, claiming to have resolved eight conflicts within the past year. Trump declared that the United States has effectively become the ‘real United Nations,’ a stark contrast to the UN’s limited engagement, which he noted even in the Russia-Ukraine crisis. He urged the United Nations to become more active in pursuing world peace. The ceasefire agreement, signed on Saturday, brings an end to weeks of fighting over disputed territory. It mandates the immediate cessation of military operations, troop stabilization, and the prompt return of civilians to their homes. This recent surge in conflict, which began in July, saw a previous ceasefire crumble, leading to significant casualties and mass displacement, with reports indicating over 40 dead and nearly a million evacuated.
