Bengaluru, the Silicon Valley of India, played host to a significant diplomatic encounter as Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya welcomed US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. The meeting, held over a casual breakfast of filter coffee, masala dosa, and more, underscored the deepening ties between the two largest democracies.
In a post on X, Surya highlighted the discussions on the interim trade agreement and burgeoning partnerships in trade, technology, and innovation. ‘Bengaluru truly embodies the journey from masala dosa to machine learning, blending tradition with cutting-edge innovation,’ he wrote, emphasizing the city’s pivotal role in US-India economic relations.
With over 700 American companies operating here and accounting for 43% of India’s software exports, Bengaluru stands as a hub for innovation-driven collaboration. The city also hosts 40% of India’s GCCs, further solidifying its importance in fostering people-to-people and economic connections.
The visit took an authentic turn when the duo opted for a ride in a local auto-rickshaw. Surya captured the moment in a video, enthusiastically welcoming the ambassador to ‘India’s best city’ and thanking him for his efforts in strengthening bilateral ties. Gor reciprocated, praising his ‘best host’ for showcasing Bengaluru’s vibrant spirit.
Surya also introduced Gor to ‘Namma Metro,’ giving him a firsthand experience of the city’s ride-sharing culture. Sharing photos of the street food breakfast on X, Gor noted, ‘Just landed in Bengaluru. From startups to street food, the energy is unmatched. Thanks to my fantastic host.’
Beyond the culinary delights, Surya held a review meeting with GAIL (India) Limited officials on the progress of city gas distribution in Jayanagar and Basavanagudi, blending diplomacy with local development priorities.
This visit not only highlights Bengaluru’s global stature but also signals promising prospects for enhanced US-India collaboration in key sectors, setting the stage for future engagements.
