There is news of a fire in a firecracker manufacturing factory in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, in which 6 employees have died and many are still burnt. According to preliminary investigation, the explosion occurred during chemical mixing. The explosion completely destroyed at least one room in which employees lived. Police has also reached the spot and is investigating the incident.

This factory is in Bommayapuram village of Appanayakanpatti Panchayat, which is run by a person named Balaji. The explosion occurred when work was going on in the factory and the workers were at their regular work. Those who died included Velmurugan, Nagaraj, Kannan, Kamaraj, Shivakumar and Meenakshi Sundaram. Another person has been admitted in a critical condition in the government hospital in Virudhunagar.

In the last few years, many cases of explosions in firecracker factories have been reported in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. In May 2024, seven rooms were gutted in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit near Sengamalapatti, killing nine employees, including five women.
In February 2024, there was an explosion in a firecracker factory in Virudhunagar district, resulting in the death of 10 people and serious injuries to the same number of people. In October 2023, two firecracker factories caught fire in Rangappalayam and Kitchenaikenpatti villages of Virudhunagar district, killing 13 people and one person in Kitchenaikenpatti.
