Anthony Heraghty has been fired from his position as CEO of Super Retail Group due to unsatisfactory disclosures concerning his relationship with the company’s former Chief Human Resources Officer, Jane Kelly. The decision, made by the board, was based on new information provided by Heraghty. The retail giant, which owns brands such as Rebel Sport, BCF, and Supercheap Auto, did not specify the nature of the undisclosed details that prompted the dismissal. Allegations of an affair between Heraghty and Kelly surfaced in April 2024. The claims involved Rebecca Farrell, the former chief legal officer, and Amelia Berczelly, co-company secretary, who alleged they faced intimidation after raising concerns about the relationship. According to court documents, Heraghty and Kelly were seen entering a Brisbane hotel lobby together in June 2023, and another employee reported an incident at a bar in 2022. David Burns, the Chief Financial Officer, has been appointed interim CEO. The board has removed all financial benefits from Heraghty, including cancelling unvested incentives. Following the announcement, Super Retail Group’s shares fell by 2.6%, raising investor concerns. Analysts expressed surprise at the timing of the board’s decision. This event follows another corporate scandal where Astronomer’s CEO and Chief People Officer resigned after a public ‘kiss cam’ incident at a Coldplay concert.
