In a dramatic turn of events, former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been re-arrested and will skip his trial, according to reports. The re-arrest was ordered by a Seoul court due to concerns that he might destroy evidence related to his attempt to impose martial law. Yoon, 65, is currently detained at the Seoul Detention Centre and could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment or even the death penalty, if convicted of insurrection.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Yoon’s wife, Kim Keon-hee, is also being investigated on charges related to financial and electoral malfeasance. These charges involve stock manipulation, election interference, and bribery. The investigation into Kim Keon-hee includes searches connected to her alleged involvement in political candidate selection. Yoon was previously impeached and then arrested and released on technical grounds, but now faces trial and re-arrest related to the crisis that erupted after his attempt to undermine civilian government.
