A shooting occurred at a school in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning. The incident involved a gunman who opened fire, resulting in the deaths of two children. Seventeen other individuals sustained injuries as a result of the shooting. Police reports indicate that the shooter also committed suicide after the shooting. The two children who died were 8 and 10 years old.

The location of the attack was Annunciation Church, which also houses a grammar school. A hospital official confirmed that of the 17 injured, 14 were children, with seven in critical condition.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara stated that the suspect, believed to be around 20 years of age, was armed with a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol. The police also noted that the suspect had no significant prior criminal record. During a press conference, the police chief explained that the shooter approached the school near the church during Mass and initiated gunfire through the church windows using a rifle. He mentioned that the shots targeted children who were present in prayer. The suspect also fired at children and worshippers within the building.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned on Truth Social that he had been informed of the “tragic shooting” and that the White House was closely monitoring the situation. Trump stated, “The White House will keep a close watch on this horrific situation. Please join me in praying for all involved!” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was present at the press conference, as well. The mayor stated that children should be able to play in playgrounds, and attend schools and churches peacefully, free from the fear and risks of violence.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also commented on social media that he had been informed of the shooting incident and that he was praying for the affected children and teachers whose school week was disrupted.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the agency’s agents were on the scene. Patel wrote on X, “We are aware of reports of a shooting at a Catholic school in Minnesota. FBI agents are on the scene, and we ask everyone to keep potential victims, civilians or law enforcement in harms way in your prayers. The FBI will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
