Russia Ukraine War: Sad news has come to light regarding Indian citizens serving in the Russian Army during the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. The Indian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Russia has informed that 16 Indian citizens serving in its army are missing. Apart from this, the deaths of 12 Indians have been confirmed so far. This information has been given by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
126 Indians were included in the Russian army, 96 returned to India
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told in the press briefing that a total of 126 Indian citizens were serving in the Russian Army. Of these, 96 people have returned to India and have been freed from the Russian armed forces. However, there are still 18 Indians serving in the Russian Army, out of which 16 have not been traced. Russia has classified him as missing. He further said that the Government of India has demanded to free these citizens involved in the Russian Army and send them back to India.
12 Indians died
Randhir Jaiswal informed that 12 Indian citizens serving in the Russian army have been killed during the war. These include 32-year-old Binil Babu, recently resident of Thrissur, Kerala. He joined the Russian army and was fighting the war against Ukraine. After the death of Binil Babu, the Indian Foreign Ministry had raised this matter with the Russian government. The ministry had said that India has reiterated its demand to send other people from the country included in the Russian Army to India soon.
President Putin’s assurance
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had informed in August last year that President Vladimir Putin has assured to remove Indian citizens from the Russian Army and send them to India. India’s stand in this matter is clear and it has been raised with Russia several times.
