In a significant development, Russia has rejected reports suggesting that it is supplying RD-93MA engines for the JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets to Pakistan. The denial directly contradicts claims that were previously made. This controversy has raised questions about Russia’s strategic alliances and the state of its relationships with both Pakistan and India.

A Russian source was quoted saying there has been no confirmation of supplying RD-93MA engines to Pakistan. The source explained that such reports are inconsistent with the close ties between Russia and India, raising doubts about the motivations behind the reports. The source also alleged that some are attempting to undermine the cooperation between Russia and India.

The controversy is connected to the JF-17 Thunder, a 4.5 generation stealth fighter jointly built by Pakistan and China. The aircraft is equipped with the Russian RD-93MA engine. The JF-17 is a key fighter jet for the Pakistan Air Force, having more than 150 units in service. The news of engine supply to Pakistan has been dismissed by Russia.

The denial comes amid the backdrop of a potential visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India in December. Putin has expressed that he shares a relationship of trust with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In addition to that, the impact of U.S. tariffs on Indian crude oil purchases from Russia was discussed, with Putin suggesting that India will not be pressured into changing its policies.
