Hyderabad. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday responded to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s tweet and called EVMs in India a “black box”. Billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday stressed the risk of electronic voting machines being hacked by humans and AI and said that ‘we should eliminate electronic voting machines.’
Musk wrote on ‘X’, responding to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “We should eliminate electronic voting machines. The risk of being hacked by humans or AI, although small, is still too high.”
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., citing an Associated Press report on the Puerto Rico primary elections, argued that EVMs could be hacked and insisted that the US should return to paper ballots.
Echoing Musk, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “EVMs in India are a “black box”, and no one is allowed to examine them. Serious concerns are being raised about the transparency of our electoral process. When institutions lack accountability, democracy becomes a sham and the possibility of fraud increases.”
Rahul Gandhi has also uploaded a picture of a media report with the tweet, which claimed that a relative of the Shiv Sena candidate, who won the election from North-West Mumbai by 48 votes, has a phone that can unlock the EVM.
Opposition parties have been raising concerns over EVMs for some time now and have demanded 100 per cent counting of VVPAT slips, which was not allowed.
