President Vladimir Putin has sent a strong signal to Europe, declaring Russia’s readiness for war if diplomatic channels for the Ukraine conflict are obstructed. Putin directly accused European governments of acting as a roadblock to US-led peace initiatives, claiming they are deliberately making negotiations impossible with their demands. In his view, European leaders are not prioritizing peace but are instead enabling a continuation of the fighting. These pronouncements were made just before Putin’s meeting with a US delegation, including envoy Steve Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner, in Moscow, signaling a critical juncture in the peace process. Putin stated unequivocally, ‘We are ready’ for conflict if provoked, emphasizing that Europe’s current approach lacks a peace-oriented agenda. He further alleged that European nations are intentionally altering peace proposals with demands that Russia cannot accept, effectively paralyzing negotiations and then deflecting responsibility onto Moscow. While issuing this warning, Putin reiterated Russia’s non-aggressive stance towards Europe, clarifying, ‘We are not planning to go to war with Europe, but if Europe wants to and starts, we are ready right now.’ The US is currently promoting a refined 28-point peace framework, which has seen considerable debate among stakeholders.
