New Delhi is set to host a landmark event in the world of artificial intelligence as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam this evening. The five-day summit, running from February 16 to 20, marks the first time such a high-profile AI gathering is being held in the Global South, drawing global leaders, industry titans, innovators, policymakers, researchers, and tech enthusiasts from around the world.
In a post on X, PM Modi extended a warm welcome to all participants, emphasizing the summit’s theme: ‘Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya’ – For the Welfare of All, Happiness for All. This ancient Sanskrit principle underscores India’s commitment to harnessing AI for human-centric progress, ensuring technology serves humanity’s greater good.
‘AI is transforming sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture, governance, and enterprise,’ PM Modi stated. He highlighted how the summit will foster global discussions on innovation, collaboration, responsible usage, and more, paving the way for a progressive, innovative, and opportunity-rich future.
India’s position at the forefront of AI transformation is no accident. With a population of 1.4 billion, the country boasts robust digital public infrastructure, a thriving startup ecosystem, and cutting-edge research. These elements reflect both ambition and responsibility in AI adoption.
Earlier, PM Modi expressed pride in hosting the event, noting it showcases India’s youth potential and rapid strides in science and technology, contributing significantly to global development. He also shared a profound Sanskrit subhashita: ‘Dane tapasi shauncham vigyanam vinaye naye. Vismayo na hi kartavyo bahuratna vasundhara.’ This verse celebrates the earth’s abundance of talents in charity, austerity, valor, science, humility, and leadership, reminding us that constant innovation in science and technology should inspire awe but not surprise.
Alongside the summit, PM Modi will also inaugurate the India AI Impact Expo 2026, running concurrently, offering a showcase of AI advancements and applications. This dual event promises to set new benchmarks in global AI discourse, positioning India as a pivotal player in shaping the AI-driven future.
