JERUSALEM – Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Israel kicked off with an emotional high as a group of disabled artists stole the show at a welcome event organized by the Indian diaspora. Their heartfelt performance of ‘I Love My India’ became an instant symbol of the unbreakable bond between India and Israel.

Arriving on a two-day official trip, PM Modi was greeted with immense warmth by overseas Indians at his hotel premises in Jerusalem. The colorful cultural extravaganza featured Kerala caregivers showcasing the mesmerizing Thiruvathira dance, highlighting the state’s rich traditions and the performers’ unwavering dedication.

But it was the visually impaired singer Dina Semte from India, joined by a talented ensemble of disabled performers including Indian-origin Jews and Israeli citizens, who truly captured the moment. Their rendition of ‘I Love My India’ left PM Modi visibly moved. Sharing the highlights on his official X account, he praised the act as a beautiful reflection of shared heritage between the two nations.

“A stellar group of differently-abled artists presented a memorable performance on ‘I Love My India’. Indian Jews and Israeli citizens came together in this act,” PM Modi posted, underscoring the performance’s role in symbolizing deep-rooted ties.

The event followed a grand reception at Ben Gurion Airport and a brief one-on-one meeting with Israeli leaders. As PM Modi stepped into the hotel, the diaspora and Jewish-Indian community erupted in cheers, complemented by joint performances from Indian and Israeli artists.

On the second day of his visit, PM Modi paid solemn respects at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, honoring Jewish victims. He later received a red-carpet welcome from President Isaac Herzog, who shared glimpses of the preparations on X, featuring fluttering flags of both countries and the ceremonial carpet rollout.

This visit reinforces the strategic partnership between India and Israel, blending cultural exchanges with diplomatic milestones. The ‘I Love My India’ performance stands out as a poignant reminder of unity transcending boundaries, inspiring audiences worldwide.
