New Delhi witnessed a pivotal diplomatic encounter on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, at the iconic Hyderabad House. The meeting underscored a renewed commitment to bolstering bilateral ties between India and Canada, focusing on key areas of mutual interest.

The discussions centered on strengthening partnerships in trade, investment, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research, innovation, and people-to-people connections. Both leaders are set to review ongoing collaborations across these pillars while exchanging views on regional and global developments.

Following the high-level talks, an exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) is anticipated, paving the way for formal announcements. A joint press statement will address the outcomes, highlighting concrete steps forward. The agenda continues with the India-Canada CEO Forum at Bharat Mandapam at 1:50 PM, where both PMs will participate to foster business synergies.

Earlier in the day, PM Carney met with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. The foreign minister expressed delight over the interaction on social media, appreciating Carney’s dedication to advancing partnerships. This visit arrives at a crucial juncture, as relations between the two nations stabilize, building on mutual respect, robust people-to-people links, and complementary economic strengths.

PM Carney, upon arrival in the national capital, shared his enthusiasm on X, emphasizing the shared ambitions of Canada and India. He highlighted emerging collaborations in energy, talent, innovation, and AI to enhance security and prosperity for citizens of both countries. As Carney departs at 6 PM, this engagement reaffirms a forward-looking alliance poised for growth.
