In a significant diplomatic engagement during his visit to Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held fruitful discussions with President Isaac Herzog in Jerusalem on February 26. The leaders delved into key areas of collaboration including startups, education, innovation, and advanced technologies, underscoring the deepening ties between the two nations.

A highlight of the meeting was the joint tree-planting initiative in the Presidential Garden under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign, symbolizing shared environmental commitments and personal bonds. PM Modi extended a warm invitation to President Herzog to visit India, emphasizing the eagerness of the Indian people to host him.

Speaking during the meeting, PM Modi expressed profound gratitude for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation, reflecting Israel’s deep affection for India. ‘The respect shown since yesterday mirrors the heartfelt connection Israelis have with India, and I am deeply thankful,’ he remarked.

Highlighting potential synergies, PM Modi noted Israel’s expertise in science, innovation, education, water management, and agriculture. ‘India is actively adopting Israel’s best practices, especially in farming, yielding impressive results,’ he added, pointing to the robust partnership potential across multiple sectors.

In his invitation, PM Modi reminisced about past interactions, praising Herzog’s clarity of thought and respect for India. ‘Indians are eager to welcome you. I urge you not only to visit Delhi but to spend more time exploring other institutions and meeting our people,’ he said earnestly.

President Herzog reciprocated enthusiastically, encouraging young Indian students to study in Israel and Israeli students to explore opportunities in India. He highlighted how enhanced connectivity between the two nations could transform geostrategic dynamics to benefit the Global South. ‘India leads in many fields, and we are thrilled to have you here,’ Herzog affirmed.

Earlier, President Herzog shared a video on X showcasing preparations for PM Modi’s welcome, posting, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people of Israel welcome you with open arms. I look forward to hosting you in Jerusalem today!’ This visit reinforces the strategic partnership between India and Israel, promising further advancements in bilateral relations.
