New Delhi: In a significant diplomatic exchange, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on January 7. The leaders delved into key areas strengthening their strategic partnership, with a strong emphasis on counter-terrorism efforts.

PM Modi personally shared details of the call on social media platform X, extending New Year greetings to Netanyahu and the people of Israel. ‘It was a pleasure speaking with my friend, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and wishing him and the people of Israel a Happy New Year. We discussed ways to further strengthen our India-Israel strategic partnership in the coming year. We also shared our views on the situation in the region and reiterated our resolve to combat terrorism even more strongly,’ Modi posted.

The conversation comes amid ongoing regional tensions in West Asia. Both leaders reviewed the evolving security landscape, underscoring their commitment to zero tolerance against terrorism in all forms. Modi reaffirmed India’s support for fair and lasting peace initiatives, including the prompt implementation of the Gaza peace plan.

This marks another instance of high-level engagement between the two nations. Just last month, on December 10, Netanyahu had called Modi to express satisfaction over the steady progress in bilateral ties. They reiterated pledges to deepen cooperation in mutual interests.

Notably, Netanyahu’s planned visit to India in December 2025 was postponed, sparking discussions due to security concerns following a blast near Delhi’s Red Fort in November. This was the third such deferral, highlighting the complexities of scheduling amid regional volatility.

The India-Israel relationship continues to flourish, built on shared values of democracy, innovation, and security. As both nations navigate global challenges, such regular interactions signal a robust future for their alliance, promising enhanced collaboration in defense, technology, and beyond.
