In Tokyo, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with the governors of 16 Japanese prefectures, focusing on strengthening the India-Japan relationship through state-level partnerships. The discussions were centered around the State-Prefecture Partnership initiative, which was introduced during the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. The talks aimed to enhance collaboration in key areas, including technology, innovation, investment, and skill development, along with artificial intelligence and support for startups and medium-sized enterprises.
The Prime Minister underscored the potential for Indian states and Japanese prefectures to work together, leveraging their respective strengths to contribute to mutual development and prosperity. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the meeting on X, recognizing the importance of cooperation between Indian states and Japanese prefectures. PM Modi stressed that the State-Prefecture Partnership would bolster cooperation in trade, technology, tourism, skill development, security, and cultural exchange.
