Gandhinagar, January 12 – In a significant diplomatic milestone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz issued a joint statement following high-level bilateral talks, pledging unwavering cooperation to combat terrorism. Addressing the media at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre, both leaders emphasized deepening ties in technology, strategy, and economics.

PM Modi warmly welcomed Chancellor Merz, invoking Gujarat’s traditional hospitality: ‘Avkaro mitho aapje re’ – we welcome you with affection and warmth. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening the friendship and partnership with Germany.

In a key highlight, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of both leaders, symbolizing enhanced collaboration. Modi stressed that terrorism poses a grave threat to humanity, and India and Germany stand united in this battle with resolute determination.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need for reforms in global institutions to tackle worldwide challenges, pointing to the G4’s joint efforts for UN Security Council restructuring as a testament to shared vision. Describing Merz’s visit as historic, Modi noted it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the strategic partnership and the 75th year of diplomatic relations.

These milestones reflect not just time passed but mutual trust, ambition, and growing cooperation, Modi said. He underscored the vital role of economic synergy between India’s and Germany’s robust economies for global benefit. Technological collaboration, especially in renewable energy, continues to yield tangible results on the ground, aligning perfectly with both nations’ priorities.

The talks underscore a renewed era of India-Germany relations, promising mutual growth and stability amid global uncertainties.
