A former Pentagon analyst has called for a drastic reevaluation of US policy towards Pakistan, demanding that Islamabad be officially recognized as a ‘state sponsor of terrorism.’ Michael Rubin, in a recent interview, did not mince words regarding Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, stating that the general ‘should be arrested’ if he travels to the United States. Rubin sees no strategic advantage for the US in its current relationship with Pakistan, questioning its standing as a key non-NATO ally.
The analyst further scrutinized former President Donald Trump’s trade policies, particularly the significant tariffs imposed on India over its procurement of Russian oil. Rubin contended that this action was misguided and that the US owes India a public apology for its treatment. He emphasized that the broader interests of the United States and the global community of democracies should take precedence over any individual’s ego.
Rubin also addressed the international energy dynamics, including Russia’s readiness to supply more oil to India. He expressed support for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach to safeguarding India’s interests. The former official pointed out the perceived hypocrisy of the US criticizing India’s energy choices while continuing its own trade with Russia. He advised that without providing a practical and affordable energy alternative, the US should cease its criticism, as India’s security needs are non-negotiable.
