ISLAMABAD – Security forces in Pakistan have ramped up measures in the volatile South Waziristan region, imposing Section 144 across Upper and Lower districts to curb escalating terrorist activities. The decision comes as the area witnesses a sharp rise in militant incidents over recent months, prompting authorities to enforce daily curfews from 6 AM to 6 PM local time.

District administrations in South Waziristan Upper and Lower announced the restrictions primarily to safeguard civilians, maintain law and order, and facilitate military operations. Deputy Commissioner Asmatullah Wazir of South Waziristan Upper specified that the curbs will affect Sarwekai and Sararoga tehsils, shutting down all markets, commercial centers, and road movement during curfew hours.

Key routes facing closures include those from Sarrogha, Kot Kai, Makin, and Spinkai Raghzai to Nazar Khel. Additionally, the stretch from Dargai Bridge via Madi Jan, Sheen Warsak, and Mole Khan Sarai to Chagmalai will be off-limits. Officials emphasized that these steps address immediate security threats plaguing the tribal belt.

In South Waziristan Lower, Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman detailed similar impositions around Wana, targeting non-essential travel to support security personnel mobility. Affected areas encompass Taryaza Gate, Karb Kot, Tanei, Wana, Azizabad Chowk up to Dargai Bridge. Travel permissions will only be granted in emergencies with prior police approval, valid ID, and travel documents.

Authorities urged residents to comply strictly, warning that violations will hold individuals accountable. The measures underscore Pakistan’s ongoing battle against terrorism in its northwestern frontier, where militant groups continue to pose significant risks despite military crackdowns. Cooperation with security forces is vital, as daily life adapts to these stringent protocols aimed at restoring stability.
