In a shocking early morning assault, a police post in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province came under heavy fire, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. The incident unfolded around 2 AM in Barang tehsil of Bajaur district, located in the mountainous Kohi Sar area.

Local media reports, citing police and residents, confirmed the details. The victim was identified as 60-year-old local resident Naseem Gul. The injured include 35-year-old Constable Suleman Khan, 58-year-old Constable Saj Mohammad, and 28-year-old Sahibzada, a school watchman.

All injured individuals were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar, where their conditions are reported as stable. District police spokesperson Israr Khan revealed that militants used both heavy and light weapons in the coordinated attack.

Security forces and police swiftly responded, launching a thorough search and clearance operation in the vicinity. This attack highlights the escalating terrorist violence in Pakistan, particularly in 2025.

According to the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) in Islamabad, terrorist attacks surged by 34% this year, with fatalities rising 21% year-on-year. A total of 699 attacks claimed 1,034 lives and injured 1,366 others nationwide.

Just last month, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district, gunmen targeted a police mobile van, killing at least five officers on security duty for a private gas company. The attackers fired indiscriminately, fled the scene, and set the vehicle ablaze.

These incidents underscore the relentless targeting of police forces in border provinces like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, amid rising militancy concerns.
