Oscar Security Tightened Over Iranian Drone Threat Fears

by World Opinion

Los Angeles is on high alert as the 98th Academy Awards approach amid escalating Middle East tensions. Organizers have ramped up security measures following warnings of potential Iranian drone attacks on California targets, according to media reports.

A purported FBI memo alerted Los Angeles authorities to the risk of sudden drone strikes from Iran, though specific targets remain undisclosed. The Oscars, set for Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre, are proceeding with enhanced precautions.

California Governor Gavin Newsom recently posted on X that he is in constant touch with security and intelligence agencies. ‘No immediate threats at this time, but everyone remains vigilant,’ he stated.

Executive producer Raj Kapoor emphasized during a press conference that the Academy collaborates closely with security firms, local police, and the Los Angeles Police Department for the event.

This year’s nominations spotlight Middle East filmmakers, including Israeli documentarian Hilla Medalia for ‘Children No More: War and Are Gone’ in Best Documentary Short, Meyer Levinson-Blount for ‘Butchers Stan’ in Best Live Action Short, and the Palestinian docudrama ‘The Voice of Hind Rajab’ for Best International Feature Film.

Experts note that heightened vigilance is standard for major global events during geopolitical strife. Officials confirm the ceremony will go ahead as planned, with top priority on safety.
