New Delhi. Nobel laureate Amartya Sen says that the results of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 show that India is not a ‘Hindu nation’. He said that the idea of turning India into a Hindu nation does not seem right to him. Along with this, he also cornered the former Congress governments and the current NDA government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party on many issues. Nobel laureate Amartya Sen said in a conversation with the media, ‘India is not a Hindu nation, this has become clear in the election results.’ He said, ‘I do not think the idea of turning India into a Hindu nation is correct.’ Regarding the defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, he said that full efforts were made to suppress the real identity of the country.

He said, ‘…to show India as a Hindu nation…spending so much money to build Ram Mandir, which should not have happened in the country of Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. This shows an attempt to ignore the real identity of India and it should be changed immediately.’ The 90-year-old Sena says that unemployment was increasing in India and primary education and primary health services were being ignored.

Questions raised on leaders going to jail
Sen said, “We expect to see a change after every election… As happened earlier during the (BJP-led central government), many people were put in jail without trial and the gap between the rich and the poor increased. All this is continuing and it should be stopped.” He said, “When I was young, many of my relatives were put in jail without trial.”

He further said, ‘We had hoped that India would be free from this. All this did not stop, Congress is also responsible for this. They did not change it…, but this is happening more in the current government.’ He said that the new cabinet is a ‘copy’ of the previous one. According to Sen, ‘…the ministers have got the same departments. Despite some changes, the politically powerful still remain powerful.’
Election Results
In the results of Lok Sabha elections 2024, BJP became the largest party by winning 240 seats. Whereas, NDA crossed the figure of 290. Congress got 99 seats in the election and the opposition alliance INDIA was victorious on 234 seats.
