New Delhi: Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is currently on an official visit to Germany, where she participated in the prestigious Munich Security Conference. Engaging in high-level panel discussions, she underscored India’s strategic priorities on the global stage.
The Ministry of Finance shared on social media platform X that Sitharaman held talks with Eric Beisswenger, Bavaria’s Minister for European and International Affairs, in Munich. With German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s upcoming visit to India in January 2026 on the horizon, the leaders focused on fortifying the robust bilateral ties between India and Germany.
Discussions delved into the recently concluded India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), exploring opportunities in climate finance through green and sustainable partnerships. They also exchanged insights on best practices in the recycling industries of both nations, aiming to enhance cooperation in environmental sustainability.
In a significant business engagement, Sitharaman met Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, also in Munich. The conversation centered on India’s evolving economy amid recent reforms, emphasizing policy continuity and stability to attract global investments.
Sitharaman highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, supported by transformative reforms like GST, customs duties rationalization, manufacturing push, and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes in sunrise and auto sectors. Special emphasis was placed on energy efficiency, electric vehicles, and battery infrastructure development.
These meetings signal India’s proactive diplomacy in strengthening economic corridors with key European partners, paving the way for deeper investments and technological collaborations. As global uncertainties loom, such engagements reinforce India’s position as a reliable growth engine.
