Kathmandu is buzzing with anticipation as Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki makes a passionate call to the nation’s voters. With general elections set for March 5, she emphasized that casting a ballot is more than a civic duty—it’s a chance to forge a brighter future for oneself and the next generation.

In a stirring address, Karki highlighted the transformative power of the vote. ‘This isn’t just about marking a symbol or electing a winner,’ she declared. ‘It’s about deciding the destiny you envision for your family and your country.’ Her words come at a pivotal moment, as Nepal stands on the brink of selecting a new government amid recent political turbulence.

The interim leader expressed optimism about navigating the country through the aftermath of the ‘Gen-Z’ movement, which led to the ouster of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli last September. Under her stewardship, the government has stabilized operations and paved the way for these elections within six months, fulfilling a key promise to the people.

Karki also tackled the growing threat of misinformation on social media platforms during the campaign season. She urged citizens to verify facts before sharing and warned that those spreading false narratives could face legal repercussions. This proactive stance aims to ensure a fair and informed electoral process.

The elections will determine the composition of Nepal’s 275-member parliament. Of these, 165 seats will be filled through the first-past-the-post system, where voters directly choose candidates. The remaining 110 will use proportional representation, reflecting broader party support. A staggering 3,406 candidates from 67 political parties are vying for these positions, promising a fiercely competitive race.

As polling day approaches, Karki’s appeal underscores the stakes: political stability, economic prosperity, and a path forward for Nepal’s youth. Voter turnout could well define the nation’s trajectory for years to come.
