Beijing, February 13 – Nauru President David Rhanibok Adeang revisited Jiangmen city in Guangdong Province, China, this year, expressing deep admiration for its environmental stewardship. During a cruise on a boat at the Bird Paradise National Wetland Park, he was interviewed by China Media Group’s high-level interview program.
In the interview, President Adeang highlighted a refreshing contrast to typical impressions of China. ‘When we visit China, we usually see big cities, glittering lights, and factories,’ he said. ‘But here, this land has been protected for hundreds of years across generations. Witnessing people’s love for the environment inspires me profoundly, as safeguarding the environment means securing living spaces for future generations.’
This marks his second trip to Jiangmen in under a year. Last July, he first explored the city, and now, after more than six months, he returned to reconnect with friends, celebrate the Lunar New Year, and foster business collaborations.
Reflecting on recent advancements, President Adeang pointed to tangible China-Nauru partnerships. ‘If you visit Nauru today, you’ll see the entire island illuminated by solar lights provided by Jiangmen,’ he proudly noted. ‘As president, this fills me with immense pride.’ He also shared a personal milestone: planting the first lettuce seedlings in a hydroponic garden, sourced from Jiangmen—the inaugural successful lettuce cultivation in Nauru.
President Adeang’s enthusiasm for Jiangmen underscores growing ties. ‘I hope to learn more about Jiangmen,’ he concluded, ‘but it requires repeated visits to gather that knowledge.’ His words signal a commitment to deepening bilateral relations through shared innovation and sustainability.
