A tragic incident resulted in the death of Rakesh Ehagaban, an Indian-origin motel owner in Pittsburgh. The shooting occurred on a Friday afternoon in the parking lot of the motel. The altercation began when Ehagaban attempted to intervene in a dispute between two individuals. The suspect, identified as Stanley Eugene West, shot Ehagaban in the head, shortly after Ehagaban asked ‘Are you okay?’ The entire episode was caught on the motel’s security cameras. Prior to this, West had reportedly shot a woman in the parking lot, who was in a car with a child. The woman was injured but managed to drive to a nearby auto repair shop. Following the shooting, West fled the scene and was later located in the East Hills area, where he engaged in a shootout with police. A police detective was also shot during the confrontation. West has been charged with criminal homicide and attempted homicide in connection with the events.
