    The demand for monarchy in Nepal is once again increasing. The National Democracy Party (RPP) organized a rally in Kathmandu, in which a large number of people joined the national flag of Nepal. Former King Gyanendra Singh has recently expressed a desire that he wants to play an active role in the country. However, Prime Minister KP Oli and Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba believes that it is impossible for Nepal to return to the monarchy. Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda, president of the CPA-Maoist Center, has also advised Gyanendra Singh to avoid cheating the public, saying that if the former king has his popularity, he should form his own party and can get an opportunity to serve the country again with the support of the public.

    RPP supporters argue that corruption in the Nepal government has reached its highest level. In this situation, he believes that democracy should be eliminated and the monarchy should be established again. Nepal ruled the monarchy till 2008, after which the Royal Palace in Kathmandu was converted into a museum. Recently in Pokhara, Gyanendra Singh unveiled the statue of former King Virendra Singh, in which a large number of people attended. The people present on this occasion also sang the national anthem of the monarchy. According to reports, a significant number of youths are included in those seeking the restoration of the monarchy.

    At the end of the monarchy in Nepal, the public believed that democracy would uplift the country and citizens. But now the people of Nepal are getting disappointed with this system. Due to allegations of corruption on the government, the trust of the people has been shaken, and the government’s foreign policy is also not proving effective.

    Nepal has been an important ally of India for a long time. The relations between the two countries were very strong during the monarchy. However, currently the influence of China in Nepal’s politics has increased during Communist rule and negative sentiment towards India has emerged. The Nepal government has banned the recruitment of India’s Gorkha Regiment, due to which the general public is facing difficulties. In this situation, people are remembering the old good days, and the monarchy supporters are planning a movement to take advantage of this resentment.

    Bad condition of economy

    If considering the status of RPP advocating the monarchy in Nepal, there are only 14 members out of 275 members in Parliament, which makes the base of this party weak. There are a total of 165 selected MPs in Nepal, while 110 MPs have been sent to Parliament under a proportional system. Currently Nepal’s economy is facing a serious crisis, and Donald Trump has decided to stop financial assistance to Nepal. The debt burden on the government is increasing, and in this financial year, Nepal’s external debt has increased by about 2 lakh crore rupees.
