In a significant diplomatic exchange, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday. The leaders focused on deepening the strategic partnership between India and Israel, reaffirming their joint commitment to combat terrorism amid evolving regional dynamics.
PM Modi shared his New Year greetings with Netanyahu and the people of Israel via X, highlighting discussions on bolstering bilateral ties in the coming year. ‘Exchanged views on regional developments and reiterated our shared resolve to fight terrorism with even greater determination,’ he posted.
Netanyahu described the call as productive, emphasizing talks on enhancing national security for both nations. He expressed optimism about the vast potential of India-Israel collaboration, benefiting citizens on both sides, and voiced eagerness for an in-person meeting soon.
This conversation builds on recent interactions. Just weeks ago, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Netanyahu in Jerusalem, conveying PM Modi’s warm wishes and exploring cooperation in technology, economy, skills, connectivity, and security. Jaishankar also engaged with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, reviewing the steady progress of their strategic partnership and India’s support for lasting peace in the region.
Earlier in December, Modi and Netanyahu had another phone discussion on West Asia’s situation, underscoring a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against terrorism and pledging to fortify their alliance. The PMO noted Modi’s reaffirmation of India’s backing for fair, sustainable peace efforts and swift implementation of the Gaza peace plan.
These engagements underscore the robust and multifaceted India-Israel relationship, rooted in shared values of democracy, innovation, and security. As global challenges mount, such high-level dialogues pave the way for enhanced collaboration, promising mutual growth and stability.
