Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 60th Independence Day festivities of the Maldives in Malé, serving as the ‘Guest of Honour.’ The celebrations took place at Republic Square and were attended by President Mohamed Muizzu. Before the main event, PM Modi engaged in discussions with leaders from various Maldivian political parties, including Vice President Hussain Mohammed Latheef and former President Mohammed Nasheed. A key theme was the longstanding partnership between India and the Maldives, built on mutual respect, shared values, and substantial cultural and economic exchanges. PM Modi emphasized the continued growth of this relationship, driven by strong people-to-people connections and collaborative efforts across multiple sectors. India’s commitment to supporting the ambitions of the Maldivian people and working together for global progress was also reaffirmed. The discussions also included the formation of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group.
