New Delhi witnessed a significant diplomatic exchange on Monday as Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam held a telephonic conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The leaders delved into several critical issues strengthening the bond between their nations.

Prime Minister Modi shared the details on social media platform X, expressing delight at receiving the call from his friend, Dr. Ramgoolam. They reviewed the progress in comprehensive cooperation since their memorable meeting in Varanasi last year. Both reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering the unique, historic, and people-centric relations linking India and Mauritius.

The discussion highlighted shared goals for peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region, with both leaders pledging continued collaboration. Modi eagerly anticipates hosting Ramgoolam next week for the AI Impact Summit in India.

Speculation is rife that the Mauritius PM might attend the India AI Impact Summit scheduled for later this month in Delhi. This event, set for February 16-20, 2026, has already garnered over 35,000 registrations from more than 100 countries.

Organized by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, the summit promises to be the largest among four global AI gatherings, focusing on responsible, inclusive, and impactful artificial intelligence. Over 500 startups will participate in 500 sessions, alongside governments, industry leaders, researchers, civil society, and international bodies.

Expectations include 15-20 heads of state, over 50 ministers from various nations, 40+ CEOs from global and Indian firms, and nearly 500 key figures from the global AI ecosystem, including innovators, researchers, and CTOs. The event underscores India’s vision for practical, ground-level AI outcomes, drawing unprecedented global interest.
