    Mehul Choksi Extradition Plan: Mehul Choksi, the owner of Gitanjali James and the main accused in the Rs 13,850 crore bank scam, is living in Belgium with his wife Preeti Choksi.

    He is living on “F Residency Card” in Antwerp city of Belgium. After the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, he fled from India to Antigua and Barbuda in 2018. The Government of India has requested the Belgian government to start the process of extradition of Choksi.

    The main accused in the PNB scam (Mehul Choksi Extradition Plan)

    Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi are accused of cheating Rs 13,850 crore at the Brady House branch of Punjab National Bank in Mumbai.

    Earlier, Choksi tried not to return to India by making an excuse to suspend the passport.

    Before leaving India in 2018, Choksi took citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda in 2017 itself. He refused to come to India again and again citing poor health. Many times he appeared through video conferencing. Many of his properties have also been seized in India.

    Dominica ran away from Antigua, stayed in jail for 51 days (Mehul Choksi Extradition Plan)

    In May 2021, Choksi disappeared from Antigua and reached the neighboring country Dominica, where he was arrested.

    A CBI team reached Dominica to bring India, but he got relief from the Privy Council of the British Queen. Later, the Dominica government again sent him to Antigua.

    However, Choksi had to spend 51 days in Dominica jail. He argued that he wants to return to Antigua and get treatment with a neurologist there.

    The Dominica court rejected the cases filed against him a few days after reaching Antigua.

    Use of fake documents for taking shelter in Belgium (Mehul Choksi Extradition Plan)

    According to media reports, Mehul Choksi submitted fake documents to get a residence in Belgium. He tried to show himself deported by hiding his Indian and Antigua’s citizenship and by giving false information.

    The report claimed that Choksi is now planning to go to Switzerland. He has made an excuse for treatment at a Cancer Hospital in Switzerland.
