Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport experienced a major fire incident on Saturday, October 18th, impacting its Cargo Village. The emergency began around 3:00 PM when intense flames and thick smoke were detected, triggering a massive response from firefighting teams. More than 30 fire engines were deployed to the scene, focusing their efforts on controlling the blaze within the airport’s primary cargo storage area. Airport security swiftly cordoned off the area to manage the crisis and ensure the safety of personnel. As a consequence of the fire, all flight departures and arrivals have been temporarily suspended, a critical development confirmed by aviation authorities. The investigation into the cause of the fire has commenced, with experts from the CAAB and the fire department collaborating on the assessment. While the passenger terminals are reportedly still operational under heightened security, cargo operations have been brought to a standstill. The immediate priority is to extinguish the fire and secure the area. Officials have indicated that a detailed report will be issued following a thorough investigation and once the situation is fully contained. The full scope of damage is still being evaluated.
