The Chinese government has lauded India’s quick action in rescuing the crew of the MV Wan Hai 503, which caught fire off the Kerala coast. The Chinese Embassy’s representative, Yu Jing, acknowledged the efforts of the Indian Navy and Mumbai Coast Guard following the onboard explosion that occurred 44 nautical miles from Azhikkal. The ship had a total of 22 crew members, 14 of whom were Chinese nationals (including six from Taiwan). Indian Coast Guard ships, including ICGS Rajdoot, Arnvesh, Sachet, Samudra Prahari, Sachet, and Samarth, were diverted for assistance. The ship was carrying containers and listing, with some containers lost overboard. The Coast Guard continues to battle the fire and search for missing crew members.
